Ch Parvez Elahi’s excellent strategy on the issue of Senate in Punjab is an extraordinary example: Ch Shujat Hussain
All the provinces need a similar spirit of understanding on the Senate and other national issues to reduce political tensions
Lahore: 27-02-2021: Different leaders called on Pakistan Muslim League President and former Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujat Hussain and congratulated him regarding the Senate elections. Salik Hussain, Saleem Baryar, Shafay Hussain, Muhammad Khan Bhatti, Sabahat Elahi and Rana Khalid were also present in the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Ch Shujat Hussain said that due to personal efforts of Speaker Punjab Assembly Ch Parvez Elahi, all the candidates for the Senate in Punjab were elected unopposed. The example which Punjab has set it should be emulated in other provinces also and all national problems including the Senate such solidarity should be promoted.
He said that Ch Parvez Elahi talked to the leaders of other political parties including PPP co-chairman former president Asif Ali Zardari and leading leaders of PML-N and took them into confidence and due to these contacts all the candidates were elected unopposed as senators.
He said that a similar example is found in the past and the credit for this goes to our family. We had resolved the issue of the Senate in NWFP (now KPK) through dialogue when a candidate Sardar Tanveer was left alone. Everyone tried but Sardar Tanveer announced his withdrawal at our request and Haji Bilour, Ghulam Ahmed Bilour and other leaders were elected unopposed senators. The promises made to Sardar Tanveer could not be fulfilled but he nurtured principled politics by fulfilling the promise he made to us. Ch Shujat Hussain said that this time the situation that had arisen in Punjab and everyone was busy talking in their place, Ch Parvez Elahi’s excellent strategy showed an extraordinary example, the Senate and other national issues in other provinces as well. The rest of the provinces need a similar spirit of understanding on the Senate and other national issues to reduce political tensions. #
