Insha-Allah next financial year budget will be presented in new House, project was to be completed in two years but due to N-league negligence cost escalated by more than Rs 3 billion as it remained postponed for 12 years

Lahore: 04-06-2021: Dream of Speaker Punjab Assembly Ch Parvez Elahi about new assembly building and House has materialized, construction of Punjab Assembly new building is near its completion, Insha-Allah next financial year budget will be presented in the new House.

Speaker Punjab Assembly Ch Parvez Elahi reviewed the construction of new building here today (Friday). On this occasion, he was accompanied by Provincial Ministers Mohammad Basharat Raja and Sardar Asif Nakai, Secretary Punjab Assembly Mohammad Khan Bhatti, Rasikh Elahi and Secretary Communications Captain (R) Asad. Ch Parvez Elahi was given a briefing about the new building.

Foundation of new building of the Punjab Assembly was laid by the then Chief Minister Punjab Ch Parvez Elahi on June 27, 2006. The project was to be completed in two years but during the tenure of N-League due to non-availability of funds and negligence it remained delayed continuously for 12 years. Punjab Assembly’s new building and the House was to cost about Rs 2. 37 billion but due to delay the project has been completed in Rs 5. 39 billion, provincial exchequer had to bear additional expenses of more than Rs 3 billion.

Second time taking the oath as the Speaker, Ch Parvez Elahi took special interest in the construction of assembly building and due to his special efforts the project has been completed.

New Punjab Assembly hall is matchless in beauty, building’s beautification and calligraphic work has been completed under the supervision of National College of Arts, this is the biggest House of Asia assembly floor has the capacity for sitting of 422 MPAs and about 800 persons in the Visitors’ Gallery.

In this new building offices of the Speaker, Chief Minister, Deputy Speaker and Opposition Leader as well as 38 offices have been provided for the provincial ministers, Three Committee Rooms and office of the Secretary Assembly has also been established in the new building, furthermore press conference hall, dispensary, library and spacious cafeteria have also been provided whereas the Security Monitoring Room, IT Data Center and space for parking of more than 400 vehicles are also part of the new building. #
